Some sweet Japanese treats
If sushi is the only food you can think of when you think of Japan you're missing out on a lot of other sweet stuff. Here are a few examples of some Japanese sweet food stuffs:
Here we see RatCat eating a type of sweet bun called melonpan (melon bread). They don't get their name because they taste like melon (they generally don't), but because they kinda look like a melon (kinda...). RatCat's favorite has chocolate chips.
BFFB is eating a butterfly sized Pocky (a type of cookie stick covered in chocolate). It's quite a well known treat and available in many countries other than Japan. A wide of flavors exist, but the chocolate is really the classic Pocky.
Finally we have Count Slugula munching on some, slug-sized, Dango. Dango is a type of sweet dumpling made from rice flour and many flavors exist. Slugula is eating a classic: the hanami (flower viewing) dango.
That's it for today. Tomorrow we'll have some monsters you can fit in our pocket (come on, you know what I'm talking about!). Until then! =^o,,o^=

To boldly go where no RatCat has gone before!
For those who don't get the reference in the title (you don't get it, really!?): it's time for Star Trek!
Evil Space RatCat is a scientist, he's an alien, and he has pointy ears. So I figured he should dress up as Spock. I'm not sure how he feels about it, but I think he likes Spock.
Count Slugula looks pretty pleased he got to wear a captain's uniform.
He may not be wearing a red shirt, but I'm not sure he'll be totally ok...
RatCat Laforge
Lucy was going for the Worf look, but she ended up looking like B'elanna as well.
I'm thinking about doing a whole Star Trek theme week later in the year, but it had to be a part of sci-fi week too!
Tomorrow will be the last day of Sci-fi week! Until then! =^o,,o^=

Time for Star Wars
It wouldn't be sci-fi week without Star Wars! (and don't worry the other "Star" of sci-fi will come later this week).
We start of with this ChewRatCatta... Ratchew-Catbacca...
RatCat as Chewbacca, Let's leave it at that.
Next we have one of the colorful kittens as Obi Wan Kenobi. I think it suits him.
Here, Evil Space RatCat, Yoda as, we have.
Check out Lucy von Fledermaus and Count Slugula as princess Leia and Jabba the Hutt! Slugula had to gain a bit of weight for this...
Finally, we have the Big Fat Friendly Butterfly dressed as a Storm trooper. I think he's pretty awesome.
What did you think of the Ratcathian (new word, add it to your dictionary!) versions of some of the Star Wars characters? Any favs?
Until tomorrow! =^o,,o^=

The start of Sci-fi week! Alien invasion.
The first theme week of 2014 has arrived and the theme is Sci-fi! We start with: aliens! We will come across more aliens this week than I will show to you today, but I think these are quite enough to get the sci-fi ball rolling.
We start of with the Big Fat Friendly Butterfly as some random alien. A big part of any stereotypical alien is usually his big weird eyes. The BFFB is also sporting a nice space helmet.
Next we have Count Slugula as an alien with two tails and an antenna.
You probably recognize this RatCat alien as one of the squeeze toy aliens from Toy Story. Although Toy Story isn't necessarily a Sci-fi story, I love the little aliens and really wanted to draw this.
Making an alien out of any character is quite easy really. Just add some tentacles and a space helmet! Unless your character is an octopus or something...then it's just an octopus with a space helmet on. It works for mammoths though!
Finally, when you think alien, don't you also kind of think predator? Of course, predator is an alien so it fits right in with all the other alien weirdness you've already seen. So here, as our final drawing on the first day of sci-fi week, we have Lucy von Fledermaus as predator.
How did you enjoy all the RatCat and friends aliens? Do you have a favorite?
Tomorrow it's time for some crazy geniuses! Until tomorrow! =^o,,o^=

Cool
When I asked my brother what he wanted for his birthday he said: "Something cool from RatCat". This is the result:
Everybody's wearing sunglasses, because that's cool. We have some cool jackets, and of course a jetpack.
What do you think of their coolness? Who is the coolest?

Introducing: Count Slugula
As you may or may not have noticed: I've changed the look of this blog a few days ago. I realized that one of the characters that is part of the new look hasn't actually been featured yet. He has been mentioned in Lucy von Fledermaus' introduction though. I am talking about no-one other but Count Slugula:
He's a grumpy, presumably old, vampire slug that lives in Lucy von Fledermaus's castle. You might wonder "If he's a slug, why does he have a shell? I thought only snails had shells?". You are quite right and Count Slugula didn't always have it. The story behind the shell will, however, not be revealed in this post but will have to wait for another time. For now just say hello to Count Slugula and don't be offended if he ignores you.
What do you think about little Slugula? Too grumpy? Super adorable? Dashing?
Until next time!

Introducing: Lucy von Fledermaus
Lucy von Fledermaus is a sad vampire girl. She likes cloudy days and bunnies. She dislikes sunny or rainy days, bats, and being so lonely. She lives in a castle. Alone except for the grumpy vampire slug (Count Slugula) that lives in one of the towers. I drew her once before, but I decided she needed a make-over and I'm glad I gave her one!
Not to worry though, she will meet RatCat and the Fairy Princess Mammoth! I even think Count Slugula might warm up someday. The RatCat she is holding here is a stuffed animal btw. The real RatCat would be slightly bigger.
So far Lucy's introduction. Until next time!
She likes to drink tea/blood and play dress up (/I like to play dress up with her), and she would love to have a tea-party with friends one day. She tried to invite Count Slugula once, but he did not want to be part of some silly dress up tea-party or whatever.
